Last month I was away on vacation, and while I miss the sun and palm trees of Los Angeles, there’s always something nice about coming back home. Now that I’m home, I have lots to celebrate… and a wedding to plan! The bubbly has been flowing since I’ve been back – I’ve really been feeling the love from friends sharing their congrats.
But tonight, I wanted a cocktail. This is probably the first night since I’ve been back in Toronto that I’ve had some down time, so I got my mixing glass out and thought it might be nice to celebrate just being home in a city I love.
I love drinks with a bitter edge, and this one is amazing. I don’t use Fernet half as often as I should, but when I do, it’s usually in a Toronto Cocktail. If you’re craving something Manhattan-ish, but not so sweet. This one fits the bill nicely.
Recipe – Toronto Cocktail
1/4oz Fernet Branca
1/4oz simple syrup
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
Stir all ingredients with ice and strain into a cocktail glass.
Garnish the orange twist.
Note: I was out of simple syrup, so I used maple instead and it was delicious.
