Today, Monday feels especially hard. Daylight Savings Time happened this weekend, which means that we’re all behind on an hour of sleep until our bodies adjust to the time change. Maybe a cocktail will help…
First in this series, the appropriately named ‘Bitter Beginnings’ cocktail: A Calvados base, with 2 kinds of bitters, a bitter spirit, and some citrus to round things out. I really love Calvados in cocktails, as it’s generally underused and gives a subtle sweetness to the drink without being overpowering (and in this drink, with those bitters, we need it!).
Recipe – Bitter Beginnings Cocktail
1 1/2 oz Calvados
1 oz fresh grapefruit juice
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz Capo Capo
5 dashes Angostura
2 dashes Grapefruit bitters
Shake all ingredients with ice.
Double strain into a cocktail glass and serve
